Movement Medicine Retreat
We will gather at Makena’s Hills to dance amongst the trees, to dance by firelight under the stars, to dance with the elements, to dance with our hearts, to move, to celebrate, to set intentions, to close chapters, to open others, to commune with nature, to meet each other, with sweeping views across this ancient landscape.
This workshop will be a deep introduction to movement medicine practice. We are building a community of conscious dance practice in Kenya so there will opportunities to continue the journey. We will also dance in the Shala and other locations around the conservancy giving us the opportunity to connect with nature.
Movement Medicine is an exhilarating dance practice dedicated to embodied consciousness. Movement Medicine brings us into connection with the aliveness of the universe inside us, in mutual relationship with the aliveness of the universe outside us. It is a way to learn how to experience life more deeply, to empower yourself to be who you really are and make the unique contribution it is yours to make. It teaches about relationship, relationship with ourselves, each other, the web of life that we are part of and the spirit world. And underpinning all of this is the dance connecting us with the joy stream of life itself.
Dance is our natural birthright. It’s not about how you look, it’s about how you feel and whether you are free to unleash the power inside you. Our ancestors danced to celebrate, to mourn, to heal, and in ceremony. Movement Medicine is a contemporary expression of this ancient impulse. Do you yearn for a deeper connection to yourself and to the land? Is there a part of you that dreams of the freedom and wildness of wide open spaces?
During the workshop, we will engage with a variety of Movement Medicine practices, working indoors as well as outdoors amidst the beauty of the Ol Ari Nyiro Conservancy. You will be invited to enter into communion with the nature within and without.
When we listen deeply to nature in this way, we open ourselves to the wisdom of the wild. In Movement Medicine we learn to trust our instinctual selves, to learn how to work with our minds, to befriend our emotions and to know our interconnectedness with all living beings. We connect with the arc of time, where we have come from, where we are now, and where we are going, polishing our inner compasses to guide us. From this place of true connection, we discover the love that is always available to us, wherever it is we are.
